The Top 5 Worst X-Men (Ever)

Posted in Top 5 Lists with tags , on 11/14/2014 by McCutcheon

We’ve all wondered what it would be like to have superpowers. Some guys turn these daydreams into careers and then many of them turn out like I am. But that’s a different story.

One of the greatest reasons to ever have superpowers, to just be born with them, has some positives and some drawbacks, as X-Men has shown us. While some guys are born with claws and a healing factor, some are born as actual freaks. Like Squid-boy. Yes, that’s a real character.

And though the Top Five Greatest X-Men of all time would be quite a list (That you could probably guess off the top of your head), the worst is something to behold in its own right. Losers even among losers! Continue reading

The Art of Humberto Ramos

Posted in Whatever with tags , , on 11/13/2014 by McCutcheon

Of all the reasons to like comic books, the art is most of it. If you don’t like comics for the art, why do you like comics in the first place? Go read a book with no pictures, loser!

And while many great artists stretch the limits of what it seems like the infamous medium would normally do, some strike that perfect balance of dynamism, fluidity, and style. This is what legendary comics’ artist Humberto Ramos does. While keeping with the splash page frenzy of the 90s, where style was held waaay over substance, Ramos still manages to tell a story with each and every panel.

Below is a small collection of his art. See what you think. Continue reading

MBTI: John Wick- ISTP

The archetypical antihero we’ve come to know and love was played up to nicely in John Wick. And who to better portray an understated misanthrope than Keanu Reeves?

Well, maybe Daniel Day-Lewis but preparation for the role may have caused him to learn how to use a handgun to actually murder over eighty people and Summit Pictures probably just couldn’t handle that right now. Continue reading

MBTI: Louis Bloom- ISTJ

Another recent creation and possibly Jake Gyllenhaal’s greatest performance ever, Louis Bloom is the type of ISTJ you don’t want to run into.

While normally thought of as by the book and rigid, that’s a stereotype that’s a general truism rather than an absolute. The ISTJ you know may be by the book and rigid, but it’s still going to be by their rules and standards, not necessarily what their boss deems appropriate. You’ll see what I mean if you don’t already. Continue reading

MBTI: Baymax- ESFJ

While I’d generally wait a bit longer for a character to be around, it’s a far cry from the original Marvel creation of Baymax and the helpful Disney robot we get in the recently released Big Hero 6 film.

That being the case, we might as well type this guy seeing as how well the movie is doing and how obvious he is. Continue reading

Movie Review: Big Hero 6

Posted in Reviews! with tags , , , , on 11/07/2014 by McCutcheon

Stars: Scott Adsit, Ryan Potter, Jamie Chung, Damon Wayans Jr., TJ Miller, Genesis Rodrgiuez, Daniel Henney, James Cromwell, Maya Rudolph, Alan Tudyk

Rated PG for action and peril, some rude humor, and thematic elements. Running time 108 minutes, Sci-fi/Adventure/Comedy

Compare to: The Incredibles (2004), Meet the Robinsons (2007), Megamind (2010)

Just to make sure that somebody’s counting, both movies that open up today, Interstellar and Big Hero 6, feature helpful robots and the second that movie this year that includes TJ Miller speculating in awe and fear of the scary robots chasing him (Transformers 4). Just saying.

With superhero movies being all the rage, and Disney having bought out what could be the most successful franchise of them all, it’s only natural they would eventually turn a property into an animated feature. As a parody? As a new title of its own? A bit here, a bit there, Hero does a great job at fitting in, though it doesn’t break new ground as Disney is generally known for doing. Does that make it a disappointment though? Continue reading

Movie Review: Interstellar

Posted in Reviews! with tags , , , , , on 11/06/2014 by McCutcheon

Stars: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Wes Bentley, Casey Affleck, Mackenzie Foy, David Gayase, Bill Irwin, Michael Caine

Rated PG-13 for some intense perilous action and brief strong language. Running time 169 minutes, Sci-fi/Adventure/Drama

Compare to: Contact (1997), Sunshine (2007), Inception (2010)

Since his re-introduction of the Dark Knight into film and actually making him dark again, director Christopher Nolan has made himself a brand name that carries with all of his films the comparison to each of his Batman films.

After Inception, it was proven he could go outside the bounds Batman may have seemed to have set around him while his third and final installment of the Dark Knight trilogy seemed to place many on the fence about their interest in him, while procuring his place in many’s minds for possibly the rest of their lives.

After all that, what else can Nolan bring that isn’t already expected of him? A lot apparently. Continue reading

MBTI: Colonel Volgin- ENTJ

Posted in MBTI Rationals, MBTI Stuff with tags , , , , on 11/05/2014 by McCutcheon

volgin1In the footsteps of Magneto, Loki, and plenty of other villains that have just got to have it all, Colonel Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin is one apple that didn’t fall far from the tree. And he is one ruthless, sadomasochistic apple.

Since the villain makes the hero, it should be pretty clear how Big Boss got to be as awesome as he is. Look who he had to go through. Volgin in a supervillain in a world where very select few gain the kind of power he had, but y’know what they say about absolute power… Man, I have I used that line before? Power-hungry guys are all so similar… Continue reading

Three Image Comics You Need to Read- NOW

Posted in Whatever with tags , , , , on 11/04/2014 by McCutcheon

If you know me at all (I like to think of us as the symbiote suit, or maybe even a cult) then you know I like comics. It’s not even about reading a thousand a week or being obsessed, but the medium itself interests me.

And while I’ve always been a Marvel Man (and sometimes a Marvel girl), occasionally I’ll come across something that’s outside of my normal reading habits and man, can they take you by surprise.

Below are three books that you should check out, even if you’re not into comics. Continue reading

Every once and a while, an MBTI article of mine will make it out to a branch of the internet that I didn’t expect for it to. And while it’s occasionally met with open arms, in certain instances, once the user is done telling me that I should kill myself, it’s mentioned that they “don’t know what the letters mean.”

And though I feel we’ve gone too far to slow down now, it’s only fair that the new kids play too. After all, how can you expect anybody to even want to join in the game if you don’t explain the rules? So below is a brief summation of MBTI or rather- The MYERS BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR!!!! Dun-dun-DUUUN! Continue reading
