MBTI: Jorah Mormont- ISFJ
Spoilers! You’ve been warned!
J-BEAR!
It’s funny that ISTP and ISFJ could ever be confused. For the first season or so, Jorah seemed like shoe-in for ISTP. The guy was quiet, somewhat brooding, good with a sword, and only seemed to care about a couple people due to his job. This could be several types but will usually speak to ISTP characters.
But as the seasons went on, more of Jorah’s personality has been able to come out to eventually reveal a more full picture and allow me to properly type Ser Jorah in all his friendzoned glory.Considered a traitor by many, a spy isn’t much better of a title for one as formerly as prestigious as Mormont. But after spying on Daenerys for as long as he was for Baratheon, he eventually came to actually care about his uh, “object of desire.” Though Jorah is famously joked about as living in the friendzone, nobody can deny his skill with a sword nor his loyalty to the very woman who friendzoned even before she found out he was originally meant to spy on her.
Poor Jorah. Guy just can’t catch a break.
The ISFJ you know may be a little something like this. Not that they’re all living in the friendzone (I’ll try to go the rest of the post without saying that word, let’s see if I can do it) but ISFJ males especially, tend to give off some of the friendliest vibes you can get from the MBTI types. They’ll keep to themselves sure, but auxiliary Fe (Extroverted Feeling) will have them doing what they can to keep things courteous in the moment. But dominant Si (Introverted Sensing) can often have them giving off less obvious intentions when you first meet them. ISFJ and ISTJ both lead with Si and due to this introversion, have them appear cut off from those around them.
Jorah himself, as mentioned, didn’t appear so friendly when we were first introduced to him, but soon enough we see that he’s not only a decent human being (Especially rare in the GoT world) but that much of his current life is built off of mistakes he made when attempting to please others. ISFJ women often don’t like to acknowledge this side of their personality, much less the guys, but it’s there all the same. Jorah’s trading of slaves and task to watch over Daenerys is ultimately due to his attempt at keeping his former wife happy in her decadent lifestyle.
Like I said, ISFJs don’t want to be labeled as people pleasers because they’re happy in their own worlds, doing whatever it is they like to do. But it can’t be helped that when the right person comes along, they’ll do what they need to in making sure the person getting their attention remains satisfied. Take that as you will.
“There is a beast in every man and it stirs when you put a sword in his hand.”
But just in case you want to write ISFJs off as a pup who’s going to roll over and show their stomach just because you showed up, you should know that auxiliary Fe is something you get if you break through their Si armor of sorts. Habits are a tough thing to get rid of and the ISFJ is known for sticking to what they know and leaving others out in the cold if your interests don’t fall in line with theirs. Whatever is known to the ISFJ is what they stay with and it can take years to change them if they ever change at all. While Se (Extroverted Sensing) takes in sensory information objectively, Si takes them in subjectively as with all things introverted and from this, the dominant users act based on what they’ve previously experienced.
So aside from his learned skills with several weapons, Jorah was certain he was simply going to spy on Khaleesi, but ended up changing his tune to the beat of Daenerys’ drum. So much so that even when she banishes him, he doesn’t know what else to do but try win back her favor. Even Tyrion remarks at one point that Mormont is just a shell by the time they meet. Sad to see a good guy put in such a rough place.
What rough place? Oh, you know…

Could it be considered that his incapacity to get over Daenerys or change his ways would be the result of inferior Te?

I mean Ne.*

No

Go on then. Tell me “why” the inferior Ne isn’t what results in his inability to change his ways. What could be the cause?

But she’s fire proof, wouldn’t that protect her from grey scale?

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t transmit if the carrier doesn’t hasn’t fully turned yet.

I actually really like Ser Jorah, despite his questionable life choices. I liked him even before I saw this post, so him being ISFJ is a cool thing to know.
P.S. Sometimes I think having Si as the dominant function is a curse.

I can only speak with a bias but dominant Si does seem to have curse-like qualities for sure.

Ha. Guess I’m right about that. But every function cannot stand on its own. Even an Ni would seem like a curse if it is used without its pals.
