MBTI: S Heroes, N Heroes

Hoo buddy lemme tell ya somethin’ right quick. Never before now has the line between Sensing and Intuition been more blurred. Right now there’s an epidemic online and it’s called confusion. It takes place in the mind and if you’re not careful you could end up writing a bunch of nonsense just to get an introduction down.

Here’s a post giving you the simplest way to tell between a Sensor hero and an Intuitive one. Since the two should usually be pretty obvious, this might seem unnecessary. But occasionally we get a character who seems a bit more complex or well-written and it could throw a homey off. Continue reading

My Unpopular Comedy Choices

I recently watched Vacation, the sequel/remake to...National Lampoon’s Vacation. I didn’t like it. I can count on one hand the number of times I laughed out loud. If you’re sitting there for a whopping 90 minutes, you should be laughing at more than four moments in the movie.

And after reviewing Spy and deciding that Comedy movies aren’t movies I think I want to review anymore, I’m just gonna give a short list of Comedy films that I love that make most people say “Oh, you actually like that movie?” if they know what I’m talking about at all. Continue reading

You Gotta See This: The Guest

Posted in You've Gotta See This with tags , , on 07/28/2015 by Taylor Holt

guest

Stars: Dan Stevens, Maika Monroe, Leland Orser, Brendan Meyer, Shelia Kelley, Lance Reddik, Chase Williamson

Rated R for strong violence, language, some drug use and a scene of sexuality, 100 minutes, Action/Thriller

If The Equalizer took Sinbad’s place in House Guest, you’ve got The Guest. And no, I’m not just combining titles, it really is like the Denzel’s character hopped into another movie.

From the makers of the Horror/Slasher You’re Next, which I hated, comes a movie that I actually really liked. I’d seen The Guest around but only looked it up when I found out that co-writer/director Adam Wingard would be doing the live action Death Note movie and figured it would be presumptuous to think this was bad based on one movie I’d seen of his. And I’m glad I’m so darn open-minded. Continue reading

MBTI: I don’t dislike INTJs. Or INFJs, or INFPs…

I don’t get much mail compared to say, however much mail a more popular internet personality probably gets (Let’s say a million letters a day) but I get enough to start forming an opinion about who’s reading my stuff. A few months ago, somebody more popular than me posted the Brutally Honest Profiles post and the view counter has shot up and stayed higher ever since, which is cool.

And it’s also expected that with more people reading, you’re just going to have more people who don’t like what you’re saying or how you’re saying it, which is fine. But let’s clear some stuff up. Continue reading

Movie Review: Southpaw

Posted in Reviews! with tags , , , , on 07/24/2015 by Taylor Holt

south

Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker, 50 Cent, Oona Laurence, Skylan Brooks, Naomie Harris

Rated R for language throughout, and some violence, 123 minutes, Drama/Action

Compare to: Million Dollar Baby (2004), Warrior (2011)

The underdog story for the ages! You’ve never seen a movie like this, folks! A man loses it all only to come back swinging against his villainous rival!

Okay, so yes, you’ve seen this formula a thousand times. From similar boxing settings all the way to Disney movies in the 90s and much, much earlier- but that doesn’t make Southpaw feel tired as much as it drains you emotionally to give you what you already know is coming. Continue reading

MBTI: Tropic Thunder

tropic

One of the most quotable movies pretty much ever, Tropic Thunder is a comedy I always think I’m sick of until I watch it again. Then the madness starts and I have to go through the whole thing. It’s not even a choice.

I remember people standing outside of the theater telling us not to watch the movie because it was promoting hatred. Then we were all thinking “Well, we’ve GOT to see it now.” The moral of these last two sentences is that trying to ruin something won’t work if you make it appear edgy and offensive. MBTI: Domino- ISFP

dom3

You don’t know Domino? Yo dog you don’t like the 90s or something? I don’t really either. Not a fan of MC Hammer pants and even being able to slightly relate to people who post “ONLY 90s KIDS WILL GET THIS!!!” stuff. Malcolm would be ashamed.

Neena ‘Domino’ Thurman is a mutant with the power to affect probability. Meaning her mutant ability is luck. Her other skills include being sharpshooting, a martial artiste, and generally being awesome. Her personality is ISFP, meaning she is a cat that was given human form. Continue reading

True Detective Season 2, Episode 5 Review

Warning! Spoilers ahead!

Ah man, this is it. The episode where I fully gave up on True Detective, season 2. I didn’t want to, and I wish I could say it’s been a good run, but I did and it hasn’t. Here comes the misery. Continue reading

Movie Review: Ant-Man

Posted in Reviews! with tags , , on 07/17/2015 by Taylor Holt

ant

Stars: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena, Bobby Cannavale, Tip Harris, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian

Rated PG-13 for Sci-fi action/violence, 103 minutes, Comedy/Sci-fi/Action

Compare to: Iron Man (2008) and some other superhero movie

While you could argue with results, it won’t stop Marvel. Captain America, Rocket Raccoon, and now Ant-Man. Right off I don’t mind telling you that this is one of the better Marvel adaptions though that doesn’t say much does it? It gets as good as Guardians of the Galaxy and it gets as bad as Thor: The Dark World.

A bit of action, a bit of comedy, a little bit of drama- Ant-Man has it all but does it have the right amounts in the right places? Millions of people who haven’t seen it yet are sure to agree! This is a MARVEL movie, after all! Ah, just playing. Continue reading

MBTI: Barbara Gordon- ENTJ

barb1

Notice I can’t just title this “Batgirl?” Or “Oracle” for that matter? DC has a way of introducing a character with an alias and then go down the line or pass the mantle. Sorry but Marvel just isn’t that confusing.

Originally just a “girl Batman,” Barbara really has taken on a life of her own in the comics, despite her eternal connection to the Dark Knight. Whatever the continuity is, modern age or New 52, Barbara will break all the rules to do what she thinks is right. This could describe several types but Barbara’s particular brand of rule-breaking leans toward the Field-Marshal. Continue reading
