This site was initially started to help promote my zombie story, "The Dead and the Dying" but it just keeps expanding into weirder and weirder territory. zombiesruineverything@yahoo.com
I’m trying to quit. I really am. This may be the last post directly related to The Phantom Pain for a while but I’ve got too many thoughts on this game to not go on and on about it here. Especially with that ending. Love it or hate it, can you blame me for my mind working at full capacity to make sense of it all?
After a conversation with Bryce Waller, also known as Blonde Ambition or the Senator, we got to thinking about how far human traits should be lent to characters who are otherwise idols and heroes to us.
Do flaws make the character? Or is it the lack of flaws that make us want to aspire to something greater? With certain fans preferring to have an untouchable legend as their icon, others tend to gravitate more toward the flawed and corporeal aspect. So how human should these characters be? Is there a character rooted similarly to all their fans?
Spoilers! If you haven’t beaten Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, don’t read this post!
Originally, I was just going to dissect the ending of TPP, but the more I thought about it, the more I think it could become a different post altogether. What’s just as interesting in my mind and what’s got a lot of fans buzzing about the final (?) Metal Gear game is that, by the end of this game, we don’t get that oh-so-satisfying conclusion that lets us breathe a sigh of relief that says, “Okay, NOW he’s a bad guy.”
But as I sit here listening to this amazing soundtrack, I can tell you that this ending should have been a Big Boss Bad Guy slap to your face. But in a much more subtle sense than how any of us thought it would happen. Continue reading →
Bit of an obscure quote with the title there, but it’ll do. I had to go a slightly different route than the “Kept you waiting, huh?” line even if it is more fitting. These are Solid Snake’s words after beating Metal Gear 2.
I haven’t been posting for a month and within that time I’ve gotten hyped up for the newest (and last…?) Metal Gear Solid. So of course, I’ve written about it too. Below this post is all the stuff I’ve been working on in the time I haven’t posted and directly below are all the Metal Gear-related MBTI stuff I’ve written and then a couple non-MBTI posts as well.
Going to play MGS V The Phantom Pain which I was literally just handed at midnight (Thanks, Bryce!) okay bye now-
It’s not often characters are faced with the problem of fighting off their own clone. There are a few characters here and there but it’s even less of a cliche that a major character’s clone/”son” is fighting them on behalf of the original’s own values. There’s a pretty famous scenario that somewhat resembles it but not done in such a modern fashion as it is in the Metal Gear series.
Big Boss and Solid Snake’s relationship may be one of the most complex in entertainment, let alone fiction. And it’s deep enough that to just call it entertainment almost feels like an understatement. There are many great rivalries, but few can compare to the level of simultaneous disdain and attachment opposing characters have for each other. Continue reading →
“The world today has become too soft. We’re living in an age where true feelings are suppressed. So we’re going to shake things up a bit.”
You’ve got tricksters, and then you’ve got magnificent bastards. If [Revolver] Ocelot isn’t the latter, then I haven’t been playing Metal Gear Solid and where am I mother, just take me home, I’m crazy and smell fresh bread. I hear it’s amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-Kiri Rock.
Considering he’s only been in one game so far (His body anyway, up until Phantom Pain), Liquid, whose real name remains unknown, has left an impression. A renegade clone of the greatest soldier to ever live, Liquid was determined to get the remains of his “father” back…or blow everyone up using the world’s more ridiculous and potent weapon.
That’s not much of a plan but it still demands to be recognized and taken seriously. Yeah, this sounds like ESTP. Continue reading →
One of the creepiest characters and most capable characters in the MGS series, Vamp was a guy that just wouldn’t die, long after he began to want it to happen.
Pretty straightforward as a enemy but it should be taken into consideration that his abilities don’t directly play into his type or vice versa, seeing as how nanomachines, aka superpowers, are going to give any one type a physical edge, be they INFP or ESTJ. Continue reading →
At the time of writing this, I’ve just gotten back from watching Hitman. I said in a previous article (about Hitman) that would not be watching/reviewing the newest Hitman movie. I think I might have lied. Being that I’m not sure what I said, I may or may not have lied.
But whether or not I did, I can tell you for certain that this movie is everything I figured it would be. Not because I’d decided it in my mind before watching it, but because it really was just onscreen trash. Don’t worry, I won’t drag this out, I just need to make myself feel better. Continue reading →
Emotions that have emotions? Muh mind is blown! Surprise, Disney and Pixar are still breaking records together with “heartwarming comedies that are fun for the whole family!” And it’s not like it’s all just hype either, their work is pretty much always solid. It should be, right? They spend enough money to afford a small army.
Now we explore the feelings of the feelings. It wasn’t too hard to get a bead on these characters given that the personification of feelings are going to have their own feelings expressed pretty boldly. Continue reading →
