MBTI: Hermione Granger- ESTJ

If you had to think of the know-it-all character that actually might know it all, Hermione is a great character. While it may be tough to balance the lead, the funny guy, and the smart one without making any of them too bland and stereotypical, all characters pull off their tropes with unique flair.

Much of Hermione’s traits appear in the form an ESTJ’s would; often times correct, many times difficult to handle. Smart, competent and direct, Hermione shows off some of the best traits an ESTJ character can display. Crazy how often they’re portrayed as the villain but with Te as their first function, it’s no wonder why. Continue reading

MBTI: Hero Typing Tropes

I had to word the title carefully so as not to make it sound like I was typing “Heroes,” the show and so it wouldn’t so like the other post, MBTI: The Types (of Types) of Heroes. Though I guess any writer who knows how to bring in the readers would have made it sound like both of those posts just to get everybody. But that ain’t me.

If you’ve come here enough, you’ve seen links to what has to be one of the greatest sites on the internet, TV Tropes. Yes, even better than BubbaliciousBlackBubbleButts.com. If that’s a real site, I had no idea. And from TV Tropes and Typing, can come the realization that every type fits well within the confines of some of the many sorts of heroes fiction can bring us. So while we’ve described how each type is represented in the Hero mold, let’s reverse this to see how the Hero mold can fit certain types.

If you see the name, there is a link to it. Continue reading

MBTI: Inside Out

inside1

Emotions that have emotions? Muh mind is blown! Surprise, Disney and Pixar are still breaking records together with “heartwarming comedies that are fun for the whole family!” And it’s not like it’s all just hype either, their work is pretty much always solid. It should be, right? They spend enough money to afford a small army.

Now we explore the feelings of the feelings. It wasn’t too hard to get a bead on these characters given that the personification of feelings are going to have their own feelings expressed pretty boldly. Continue reading

MBTI: Rita Vrataski- ISTJ

Or Live. Die. Repeat., whatever. I prefer the source material title, All You Need is Kill, but it all sounds good.

Maybe one of the most interesting types to me in fiction because of their trudging tenacity through life and all it’s problems. Rita’s a lot older than she looks thanks to living the same day over and over again for who knows how long.

Using a mech suit, a helicopter blade, and at one point, time travel, the “Angel of Verdun” has got a lot of tools in her arsenal. But surprise, no matter how many times she tried, she just couldn’t bring down the alien menace…alone. Continue reading

MBTI: C-3PO- ESFJ

threep2

Take a look at those random letters of a title, eh?

Though he gets pegged as an ISFJ a lot, Threepio’s main function is to please, and he does this by doing and saying whatever his masters want him to do right then. None of that was meant to be sexual. But for an ISFJ, a lot of characters tell him to shut up quite a bit, don’t they? I’m seeing dominant Fe. Continue reading

MBTI: Tony Perkis/White Goodman- ESTJ

You’ve got to hand it to Ben Stiller. His two best characters are the same character in two different movies that are unrelated to each other entirely. It took a while to catch it, but Tony Perkis of Heavyweights really is the same obsessed fitness maniac as White Goodman of Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story which came out nine years apart.

Both are way too into what they do at the expense of everyone around them. But in their own mind, they’re the only one with the iron will and mental fortitude it takes to be as extreme as they are. Sound familiar, ESTJ?

Are you Perkisizing at Globogym? Continue reading

MBTI: Can Chewbacca be Typed?

The closer the release date of Star Wars is, and the new Battlefront game, the more people ask about Star Wars characters. Coincidence? No.

I’ve done the main cast I think, or at least the ones people really care about. But what about Chewie? And Ponda Baba? Let’s stick with Chewie. He growls and whatever other noises he makes and that’s it pretty much. So surely we can’t. I mean, a dog can have a personality of sorts but that doesn’t mean he can be typed no matter how many times you’ve “jokingly” done it.

But there’s enough to his character that we’ve got to be able to find something there resembling an MBTI type. Continue reading

MBTI: Tropic Thunder

tropic

One of the most quotable movies pretty much ever, Tropic Thunder is a comedy I always think I’m sick of until I watch it again. Then the madness starts and I have to go through the whole thing. It’s not even a choice.

I remember people standing outside of the theater telling us not to watch the movie because it was promoting hatred. Then we were all thinking “Well, we’ve GOT to see it now.” The moral of these last two sentences is that trying to ruin something won’t work if you make it appear edgy and offensive. MBTI: Damien Wayne- ESTJ

Entitled, snobby…but pretty skilled all the same, people’s feelings on the son of Batman are usually black and white; a description often used to describe the type at hand. It can’t be helped. ESTJs don’t like things cluttered and prefer as much clarity as possible- this could be taken a number of ways but nothing more so than their personal relationships.

It’s why little Damian is such a jerk. Continue reading
