No spoilers! Don’t worry!

Stars: Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamil, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Peter Mayhew, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Anthony Daniels, Lupita N’yongo, Andy Serkis

Rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence, 135 minutes, Sci-fi/Action/Adventure

Oh, hi guys. I’m here to write teh Star Warz four you.

Gearing up to be the biggest movie of all time (In your face, Avatar), if only behind the original Star Wars, expectations are high but should always be kept in moderation. Write that down, you’ll need it. You’ve got the fans that are going to love it no matter what and you’ve got the people who are going to hate it no matter how much they actually enjoy it.

This movie should satisfy both of them and pretty much everybody else in between. I don’t need to tell you it’s not perfect but it’s what we should have gotten in 1999 instead of Episode I. But those prequels were just doomed to disappoint, weren’t they? Continue reading

Movie Review: Sicario

Stars: Emily Blunt, Benecio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, Daniel Kaluyaa, Maximiliano Hernandez, Victor Garber, John Bernthal, Jeffrey Donavan

Rated R for strong violence, grisly images, and language, 121 minutes, Drama/Action/Crime

Haven’t been reviewing movies, been playing Metal Gear Solid V. Haven’t been eating much, been playing Metal Gear Solid V. Ironically, now that I’ve gone out in public again to watch a movie, I’d lost all my friends and had to go alone. Sucks for them, this movie is great.

I don’t like to throw out the generalized version of my opinion in the header but it is what it is. This one won’t be for everybody and the themes that run through it are sure to turn off viewers looking for something a bit less “grey” but as far as a quality film goes, specifically one that has something to say, this is a great choice. What do you expect from the director of Prisoners? I’m even loving the poster. Continue reading

So I was totally right about the Hitman movie.

At the time of writing this, I’ve just gotten back from watching Hitman. I said in a previous article (about Hitman) that would not be watching/reviewing the newest Hitman movie. I think I might have lied. Being that I’m not sure what I said, I may or may not have lied.

But whether or not I did, I can tell you for certain that this movie is everything I figured it would be. Not because I’d decided it in my mind before watching it, but because it really was just onscreen trash. Don’t worry, I won’t drag this out, I just need to make myself feel better. Continue reading

Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Doctor Moreau

After hearing all the buzz on the newest Fantastic Four movie and the problems the cast and crew had with the studio and each other, I started getting more interested in that than the movie itself. Which went from boring to cliche, by the way.

It’s the perfect way to do some far off observing into how the studio views the subject itself versus how the filmmakers do. After deciding to look into some other filmmaker/studio clashes, I rediscovered the 1996 The Island of Doctor Moreau. Holy crap. Continue reading

You Should Probably Read STARVE

Another Image book, Taylor? Really?

Yeah, fool. It’s good. I don’t know what story I’d previously mentioned when I said that you know it’s good when the creators can make you care about something you never thought you’d care about. But let me use that again. I’ve never cared about cooking and I normally read comics for the art and the violence. But Starve is an exception to any “rules” I’ve had before. Continue reading

Movie Review: Southpaw

Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker, 50 Cent, Oona Laurence, Skylan Brooks, Naomie Harris

Rated R for language throughout, and some violence, 123 minutes, Drama/Action

Compare to: Million Dollar Baby (2004), Warrior (2011)

The underdog story for the ages! You’ve never seen a movie like this, folks! A man loses it all only to come back swinging against his villainous rival!

Okay, so yes, you’ve seen this formula a thousand times. From similar boxing settings all the way to Disney movies in the 90s and much, much earlier- but that doesn’t make Southpaw feel tired as much as it drains you emotionally to give you what you already know is coming. Continue reading

Warning! Spoilers ahead!

Ah man, this is it. The episode where I fully gave up on True Detective, season 2. I didn’t want to, and I wish I could say it’s been a good run, but I did and it hasn’t. Here comes the misery. Continue reading

Movie Review: Ant-Man

ant

Stars: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena, Bobby Cannavale, Tip Harris, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian

Rated PG-13 for Sci-fi action/violence, 103 minutes, Comedy/Sci-fi/Action

Compare to: Iron Man (2008) and some other superhero movie

While you could argue with results, it won’t stop Marvel. Captain America, Rocket Raccoon, and now Ant-Man. Right off I don’t mind telling you that this is one of the better Marvel adaptions though that doesn’t say much does it? It gets as good as Guardians of the Galaxy and it gets as bad as Thor: The Dark World.

A bit of action, a bit of comedy, a little bit of drama- Ant-Man has it all but does it have the right amounts in the right places? Millions of people who haven’t seen it yet are sure to agree! This is a MARVEL movie, after all! Ah, just playing. Continue reading

Warning! Spoilers ahead!

“Those moments, they stare back at you. You don’t remember, they remember you.”

Rachel McAdams’ character says this at one point during the episode. What was she talking about? I don’t know. And that seems to be how this season is going to be from here on out. I’ve had more hope during previous episodes but now that we’re halfway through I don’t see things getting much better.

Keep reading if you don’t mind spoilers or (like me) you don’t really care too much. Continue reading

True Detective Season 2, Episode 3 Review

Warning! Spoilers ahead!

I actually meant for this to be my first post of the week but eh, you know how things go. People get Playstation 4s and put them to use. Gotham needed saving and I had to answer the call in Adam West’s Batman suit.

Staying on topic though, this episode had a little more going on for it. I’ll get into though since intros for something that will have spoilers in it means I just drag these out while saying absolutely nothing. Continue reading
