This article serves as something of a sequel to my 2012 article 5 Properties that Should Never be Made into Movies. Or maybe its Bizarro brother.

We’re all fans of those things that will never be made into movies. As great as it is to know Hollywood isn’t going to pillage some of our favorite things because they’re too obscure or the budget would be huge, there are some things that would just be cool if they could just nail it.

But alas, for one reason of another, it just doesn’t seem likely for the following entries. Maybe its better this way. At least, that’s what I tell myself. Continue reading

5 Actors Who Just ARE Their Comic-Book Character

Everybody loves it when a character is played just right. When every nuance and whim made by the decision of whoever, be it the actor, writer, or director- when it comes together, it’s just fits.

Then there’s the actors who just are their character. Sure, they’re a superhero or exorcist or whatever, but everything they do is the actor themselves pretending to be a genius scientist, rather than fully becoming the character.

And while guys like Denzel Washington have made a career out of doing this, making a major character from a pre-existing franchise your own is something to be proud of, and it’s fun to watch. Continue reading

5 Reasons George Lucas Needed to Make the Prequels Regardless of How Much They Sucked

With the new Star Wars films in production, it’s only natural to be excited. Or to not care altogether. Whichever.

Though much of the excitement seemed to come from the fact that they’d be taken from George Lucas and put into the hands of capable film makers that love the material even more. We’d all seen what Lucas does with his decades-old properties and it’s been time for a change.

But even with Lucas’ plan for the prequels becoming glorified mannequin positioning, is there anything to salvage from them? Are they three films with nothing for us to take away? Maybe, but here are some ideas on why they needed to be made for one reason or another, whether or not they sucked.

And man, did they suck. Continue reading

5 Reasons X-Men Needs a Reboot

Some Mild Spoilers Ahead!

You might hate me for it, but I’m going to be “that guy” for a post. It’s not that I want to be, but I think it’s called for.

With the new X-men movie raking in the moolah and garnering praise from critics and audiences alike, it seems that the Bryan Singer train isn’t likely to stop anytime soon and that’s unfortunate. Why would should they reboot a franchise that’s doing so well financially as of this last movie anyway?

Well, I’ll tell you why. Step into my office.

5 Examples of Unintentional Remakes

There is no originality anymore. We know this. It’s just a fact of life. If history can repeat itself, a bunch of corporate fat cats that make millions off of other people’s stories sure as hell ain’t gonna hesitate to make the same story twice.

We just talked about this!

In any case, the following are examples of how often times, movies come full circle in unexpected remakes that aren’t actually meant as remakes. Similarities are one thing, but being able to do a Mad Libs with the stories and characters settles it. Continue reading

If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been, don’t worry, I’ve been alive and healthy. If you hate that I’ve bee doing okay in the time that you may have thought that I wasn’t okay, well screw you!

This week, I’m joined by Josh as we discuss our Top 5 heroes of ALL TIME. There’s no going back after this, folks. Once you say yours out loud or type it down, it’s permanent. So unless you really mean it…don’t say it.

There are only two rules-

1. They can be any genre, any medium (Literature, Film, Television, etc.) but they must be fictional. You can’t really compare your great uncle that saved your life in that skiing accident that one time to the Fantastic Four’s Thing, this is just for the heck of it.

2. They can’t be a straight-up villain. Sure you could argue almost anybody, but save them for a villains list. Continue reading
