You Should Probably Read STARVE

Another Image book, Taylor? Really?

Yeah, fool. It’s good. I don’t know what story I’d previously mentioned when I said that you know it’s good when the creators can make you care about something you never thought you’d care about. But let me use that again. I’ve never cared about cooking and I normally read comics for the art and the violence. But Starve is an exception to any “rules” I’ve had before. Continue reading

An Intro to Deadpool

So by now you’ve seen the trailer. And the red band trailer. And chances are- you were into it.

And chances are, you didn’t recognize anybody in it aside from Deadpool and Colossus. Why would they do this? Probably so they can kill characters off that don’t have their own franchise and Deadpool kills a lot of people.

So here’s a quick guide to D-Pooly, his history, allies, and enemies. Sure you could go to Wikipedia, Comic Vine, Marvel Database, or a thousand other sites. But you’re already here, you might as well stay. Continue reading

The Riddler is Actually Getting to Me

riddle

Warning! Mild spoilers ahead!

Sure, it’s weird that I’m writing about this but after spending two weeks (I think) playing Arkham Knight every single day, I feel the need to write about it so I can say the time was more useful than just playing a game I liked.

If you’re familiar with the Edward Nygma, aka The Riddler, you can already see where this is going. One of Batman’s most well known villains has a penchant for leaving riddles that can’t be solved by weaker minds and from this, he hopes to stump “The World’s Greatest Detective” aka Batman, and leave him drooling like a baby at how genius Nygma is. And in the Arkham Knight game, he’s really pissing me off. Continue reading

The Problem with Terminators

I’ve loved the first two Terminator movies since I was a kid and watching R-rated movies at a friend’s house was about the most exciting thing there was to do. Cussing, violence, Ah-nuld puns, murderous robots. Ah, that was the life. That I watched onscreen.

Then in 2003, it was decided by the powers that be we needed another one. It seemed unthinkable and yet they did it and it was every bit as mediocre as we’d all hoped it wouldn’t be. Then in 2009, Salvation came unfortunately. And now in 2015, here comes another.

I’m all for reboots, sequels, revamps, whatever, but there’s an inherent problem that seems to come with every new installment in the series- each movie seems to tell you that the last one doesn’t matter. Continue reading

You Need to Read Chrononauts

chrono

You’re familiar with writer Mark Millar’s work whether you know it or not. You might have read his comics- stints he’s had with Marvel (Civil War, Old Man Logan, The Ultimates) and DC (Superman: Red Son) or maybe stories with his own characters (Nemesis, Jupiter’s Legacy). Chances are, you’ve seen the Wanted, Kick-Ass, or Kingsman movies, all based on his comics.

But for all of his huge ideas, I haven’t really been a fan of Millar’s work…until now. Continue reading

The Inherent Flaw of Biopics

Posted in Whatever with tags on 05/25/2015 by Taylor Holt

It’s usually entertaining to see your favorite historical figures and celebrities fully fleshed out. The costumes, the music, the attitude- whatever or whoever it is you’re watching is suddenly brought to life in a way you previously would have had to have lived it to understand.

And they can make some serious money too. With 2013’s Lee Daniels’ The Butler grossing more than five times it’s budget, the money made from say, the book it was based on, are guaranteed to go up as well.

So what’s the problem with them? It’s too easy to say “They change things from what really happened!” Although that will usually be the case. But there’s something more to these biopics that could be brought to light each time one is released. Continue reading

THE 10 MANLIEST MOVIE CHARACTERS OF ALL TIME

This is it. I’m doing it. Don’t try and stop me.

While I sit here typing with Man of Steel in the background, I have to think through all the guys that didn’t make this list. Surely a character like Superman would have, right? His strength, speed, and abilities are immeasurable and he fits to a point because, hey, he’s in a movie, so he counts right?

WRONG.

Click here to see what puts these movie guys on the list and who made it. Continue reading

Do You Know Luther Strode?

So like, have you ever wanted to be like, super buff and not a loser? Me too. But that will never change, so I fantasize about it through comics, living vicariously through character’s superpowers we could never hope to have. And even if they existed, chances are, it wouldn’t be you that got them. I’m sorry to break this to you. It wouldn’t be me either.

And my latest power fantasy comes in the form of Luther Strode. Yes. That’s his name, don’t wear it out. It’s also about a guy who wants to be a super buff non-loser but this is a comic and superpowers are only a toxic waste barrel away! Continue reading

Analysis of Dinosaurus

Warning! Some spoilers ahead!

If you’ve looked over the more recent posts of the site, you’ve probably noticed I’ve gotten into Robert Kirkman’s Invincible comic. I can’t help myself, it’s just that good.

And one of the bigger characters to show up in issue #68 is Dinosaurus. Yes, you read that right probably. Similar to Marvel’s character The Lizard or Batman’s Manbat (Yep), Dinosaurus is a villain that goes from a somewhat innocent human then transforms into a giant animal of some kind. In this case, a dinosaur-like creature. Continue reading
