TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

Some Spoilers Ahead!

Man, the wait is over. The movie finally came out and we’re able to see for ourselves if it’s worth it or not. Many will tell you it’s not, and I’m sure many will tell you it is. Who can you trust? Me, you idiot! The answer is always me.

In all seriousness though, this is a movie that is what you want it to be. You wanna laugh, you can. You want to hate it, you will. Here are a few words to help you get into the mindset. Continue reading

Movie Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Posted in Reviews! with tags , , , , on 08/08/2014 by Taylor Holt

ninja

Stars: Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard, Noel Fisher, Alan Ritchson, Danny Woodburn, Megan Fox, Will Arnett, William FIchtner, Tohoru Mosamune, and voices by Johnny Knoxville, Tony Shaloub

Rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence , Running time 101 minutes, Action/Sci-fi/Comedy

Compare to: Hellboy (2004) The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

For a movie that’s garnering as much hype (and hate) as this new Ninja Turtles movie is, expectations were still right there in the middle for me. Could be good, could be a waste of time.

And for all the backlash its received  by way of critics, I’m having a hard time understanding it. Has the story been done before? Sure. But is it enjoyable to see the turtles flipping around with martial arts that rubber suits previously prevented? Definitely. Continue reading

Movie Review: Maleficent

mal

Stars: Angelina Jolie, Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Brenton Thwaites, Lesley Manville, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple

Rated PG for sequences of fantasy action and violence, including frightening images, Running time 97 minutes minutes, Fantasy/Adventure/Family

Compare to: Snow White and the Huntsman (2012), Jack the Giant Slayer (2013)

It’s important for any movie to know what it is. Maleficent may know what it is and audiences that go in for it may too, and those may be the ones that enjoy it the most.

But many audiences may be left out because much like the plot and the characters involved, not everything is for everyone right? Continue reading

Spoilers ahead!

There are movies and there are monsters, and then there are movie monsters. And then there are movies with monsters in them that don’t necessarily make movie monsters, y’know what I mean? Godzilla’s not like that. Continue reading

Movie Review: GODZILLA

Posted in Reviews! with tags , , , , on 05/16/2014 by Taylor Holt

godzilla

Stars: Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olson, Ken Wantanabe, Sally Hawkins, David Strathairn, Juliette Binoche, and Big G

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of destruction, mayhem and creature violence, Running time 123 minutes minutes, Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi

Compare to: Jaws (1975), Deep Impact (1998), Cloverfield (2008)

Spoiler free!

When creating a movie with giant monsters as the main characters, it’s a tough balance to strike in how much time to devote to your massive CG stars and the flesh-and-blood ones.

But while a film series like Transformers has had a tough maintaining equilibrium between Optimus Prime and all the kids he hangs out with, Godzilla knows that real thrill is in the suspense and what you don’t see. So you can bet that anything that does happen carries as much weight as the G-Man himself. Continue reading

If ya didn’t know, Marvel is expanding their horizons. It broke the mold with finally having a massive team movie, all with the characters’ separate films; but now it’s blasting off into the last frontier. I’m hoping this one is as good as it looks. I don’t like to report news really but this feels worth it. For the MBTI people, here they are typed.

Clicky clicky. Continue reading

I Just Realized April O’Neil is Disgusting

teenageturtles

Seriously! 26 years and I’m just now catching up to this fact that should have been unavoidable. Ninja Turtles have long been a source of nostalgia for me and not much more.

When I see art online for it, I might even save it (Dave Rapoza anyone?), but past being stereotypes of different personalities, there’s usually not much more to get out of it than what the title implies- the turtles are mutants, they’re ninjas, and they’re forever kids.

But the turtles themselves are not the problem. They are who they are and for some reason, they’ve decided to listen to Splinter and save humanity as many times as necessary even though their lives will go no where else. No, my problem is not these unsung reptile heroes, it’s their human friend, April the freak. Continue reading
