Stars: Seth MacFarlane, Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Neil Patrick Harris, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman, and Liam Neeson

Rated R for strong crude and sexual content, language throughout, some violence and drug material, Running time 116 minutes minutes, Comedy/Western

Compare to: Maverick (1994), Shanghai Noon (2000)

Don’t think of A Million Ways to Die in the West as a sort of spiritual successor to Blazing Saddles as much as it is a two hour long Family Guy Western. Does that sound good to you? Because if it does, this is right up your alley.

From mustaches to sheep, ethnicity to religion, nothing is safe in Seth MacFarlane’s cameo-filled frontier excursion. Continue reading

Recently, I returned to Prometheus for no other reason than because I wanted to, dang it! I have gone back and forth with this film since it came out in June of 2012.

Do I like really like it? Am I rationalizing for a terrible film because of how much I love Alien? Maybe it is good. Who knows, clearly not me; but I can say for sure that I love the cinematography in this film. You can doubt many things in this film, but Dariusz Wolski did a heck of a job.

But that’s not why I’m writing this. Continue reading

Movie Review: Prometheus

Posted in Reviews! with tags , , , , , , , on 06/07/2012 by McCutcheon

Stars: Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce

Rated R for sci-fi violence including some intense images, and brief language Running time 124 minutes, Action/Sci-fi/Horror

Compare to: Sunshine (2007), The Thing (2010)

To define what I just watched might take more than a single review. I don’t want to describe the movie with the impression that I’ve never seen anything like it before, but rather to process everything I’ve just watched and decide how much I loved and how much better other aspects could have been. One viewing might not be enough. That being said, Prometheus is one heck of a thing to watch, regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of the Alien series. We can all even further implore the recovery process to forget the last two Alien VS. Predator films. It seems the creators of Prometheus have already, thanfully for us. Continue reading

Movie Review: Snow White and the Huntsman

Posted in Reviews! with tags , , , , , on 06/01/2012 by McCutcheon

Stars: Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, and brief sensuality, Running time 127 mins, Action/Adventure/Drama

Compare to: Sleepy Hollow (1999), Robin Hood (2010)

For all the remakes and adaptions of comic books and so on, a “sleeper sub-genre” if you will, seems to keep its place in the cinema ranks; I’m speaking of fairy tale adaptions of course. Last year’s Beastly and Red Riding Hood didn’t do too bad financially, but with Snow White, the sub-genre might be getting its big break. Continue reading
