Chris Evans’ Twitter Makes Him Look Stupid

Posted in Videos! with tags , , , on 02/11/2017 by Taylor

We’re all annoyed by people who mouth off 24/7 but for some reason, we like quotes about saying whatever you want whenever you feel like it. Having a stance on an important issue is good, but having good judgement is what allows you to discern what’s important in the first place AND what to do about it if anything at all.

What I’m trying to say is that Chris Evans doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Ohhh another comic book movie! How fun! Summer must be right around the corner! Here comes another by-the-book explosion extravaganza that’s basically a huge ad for action figures. Right?

Thankfully, Captain America: The Winter Soldier defies every expectation of dumbed-down comic book movies that Hollywood has so earnestly built up in the last decade or so. It’s about time, Marvel. You can only hinge so much on Robert Downey Jr’s charisma. Continue reading

Movie Review: The Avengers

Posted in Reviews! with tags , , , , , , , , , , on 05/02/2012 by Taylor

Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi  action throughout and a mild drug reference. Running time 142 minutes, Action/Adventure/Sci-fi

Plays like: Star Trek (2009), Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011)

Back in 2002, I remember reading an article for a possible Superman/Batman movie. This of course, was before they rebooted the Batman franchise altogether and I remember thinking “They’ll never do that! They can’t! It’d be too much and not enough at the same time!” And I think I was right about that still. So when there was talk of an Avengers movie in ’08 when the first Iron Man was released, I was skeptical. But with all the end-credits scenes and movie-by-movie, the heroes were introduced. Even as I was watching the Iron Man interract with Captain America, Thor, Nick Fury; I was still thinking “Man, I can’t believe they actually did it.” Well, they did and you’re gonna like it. You Gotta See This: Sunshine

Posted in You've Gotta See This with tags , , , , , , on 04/25/2012 by Taylor

Stars: Cillain Murphy, Chris Evans, Rose Byrne, Cliff Curtis

Rated R for violent content and language, 2007, Thriller/Science Fiction/Drama

Compare to: 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Alien (1979)

Of all the “We’ve gotta destroy something huge to save Earth” movies, Sunshine (2007) is my favorite. It takes a ridiculous story and makes it feel intriguing and credible. It gives you characters you actually don’t want to die(!). I’m under the mindset that if you have a reasonable plot and a budget that’s just big enough, you’re gonna need a heck of a cast to really drive it all home. And by a “heck of a cast,” I don’t just mean one or more A-list stars, but rather actors who have a love for the craft and not just the fame it could bring. 2003’s pillaging of my favorite comic book character Daredevil suffered from this mistake: Get a big star to cover up for the fact that this won’t be as big as Titanic. I’m not going to use any puns here and say that this movie’s cast “shines” or some garbage like that, but it is what makes the movie. Continue reading
