Stars: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, BD Wong, Indominus Rex

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of science-fiction violence and peril, 124 minutes, Sci-fi/Action/Adventure

Compare to: The Jurassic Park films (1993-2003), Deep Blue Sea (1999)

Duh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh, danah nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh…Can you hear the theme when I spell it out like that? No?

This is kind of what I imagined the movie would be like. Spelling out the tune of a great piece of music but not actually understanding what makes it so great in the first place. Thankfully, Jurassic World isn’t as bad as that though it certainly isn’t the original. But hey, at least it’s not Jurassic Park III. Continue reading

Movie Review: Ex Machina

Posted in Reviews! with tags , , , on 04/24/2015 by McCutcheon

machina

Stars: Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Alicia Vikander, Sonoya Mizuno, Corey Johnson,

Rated R for for graphic nudity, language, sexual references and some violence, 108 minutes, Drama/Sci-fi

Compare to: Blade Runner (1982), Her (2013)

Notice how there haven’t been many movie reviews lately? They should stop releasing such sucky movies so often. If I’m elected president, I vow to to only have good movies released during my reign of terror.

Had I been ruling with an iron fist at the current time, Ex Machina would definitely be getting its release. Though it may be too slow for those looking for a fast-paced Action/Sci-fi blowout, Ex sets its tone, keeps to it, and you really won’t be able to guess what will happen next. Continue reading

Movie Review: The Maze Runner

maze1

Stars: Dylen O’Brien, Aml Ameen, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Will Poulter

Rated PG-13 for thematic elements and intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, including some disturbing images, Running time 113 minutes, Action/Sci-fi

Compare to: Divergent (2014)

Young adult adapted films seem to be second runner to comic book movies these days. They’re always coming out, since Harry Potter and The Hunger Games proved to be highly profitable, it’s just a matter of whether or not its worth your time.

Getting to the point, this will be well worth your kids’ time, providing the right kind of suspense and action needed to keep’em pressed to their seat, though older audience members may be left wanting. Continue reading

Movie Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

ninja

Stars: Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard, Noel Fisher, Alan Ritchson, Danny Woodburn, Megan Fox, Will Arnett, William FIchtner, Tohoru Mosamune, and voices by Johnny Knoxville, Tony Shaloub

Rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence , Running time 101 minutes, Action/Sci-fi/Comedy

Compare to: Hellboy (2004) The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

For a movie that’s garnering as much hype (and hate) as this new Ninja Turtles movie is, expectations were still right there in the middle for me. Could be good, could be a waste of time.

And for all the backlash its received  by way of critics, I’m having a hard time understanding it. Has the story been done before? Sure. But is it enjoyable to see the turtles flipping around with martial arts that rubber suits previously prevented? Definitely. Continue reading

If ya didn’t know, Marvel is expanding their horizons. It broke the mold with finally having a massive team movie, all with the characters’ separate films; but now it’s blasting off into the last frontier. I’m hoping this one is as good as it looks. I don’t like to report news really but this feels worth it. For the MBTI people, here they are typed.

Clicky clicky. Continue reading
